Body Balms

The Société des Marchés publics de Montréal is a vibrant cultural and commercial hub present across multiple public markets throughout the city. Connecting Montreal’s growing community to its local food makers and producers, MPM improves accessibility to fresh and quality produce.

The brief was to expand MPM’s offering into wellness by creating an extension line of body balms with three distinct scent profiles, each crafted with locally sourced ingredients from the Quebec region and formulated to offer unique benefits and properties.

To develop the packaging format, I wanted the unboxing experience to feel more elevated, with a design that emphasizes tactility and sustainability. To reflect the nature of the product, the design has a minimal and quiet appearance.

Encased in a framed box for a more premium feel, the interior aluminum tin containing the balm is sustainable and designed to be reused once finished. Each box features a small pull-out tab that describes and identifies the properties of the ingredients.

For type, I wanted to keep everything minimal to let the materials and negative space speak for themselves, reinforcing the subtle and quiet appeal of the design.

To reflect the transparency and purity of the ingredients, I used cotton paper and a tone-on-tone color palette that shows the abstract representation of each ingredient. The packaging is further elevated by delicate embossing that enhances the tactile and sensory experience.
